5 Fun Family Reunion Themes - Sue Kust

When planning your family reunion, but it can help make the planning process easier since the food, decorations, and activities can all follow the theme. Here are several ideas to get you started.

Birthday Party: Celebrate the birth of the family. How many years ago was the family "born" when your oldest recorded ancestors were married? Use a giant birthday cake for dessert and balloons and Happy Birthday banners for decorations. Play pin the tail on the donkey or other kid's party games since it will be for kids of all ages.  

Anniversary Party: Similar to the birthday party idea, use anniversary decorations and a wedding style cake.

Luau or Fiesta themes: These offer lots of food and decorating possibilities. Have everyone wear their most outrageous Hawaiian shirt. Hang a piñata. Get white tiles from a home supply store and ceramic paint pens and have people do hand tracings (or baby feet) for a special take-home remembrance.

Sports theme: If there is a local sports team (high school or professional) that the family cheers for, then everyone can wear team t-shirts, hang banners for decorations, and even attend a game if it works into the schedule. Get a large cake, balloons, and paper products decorated in the team colors.

Fourth of July theme: Decorate with flags and lots of red, white, and blue. Cook backyard barbeque favorites such as grilled chicken and ribs and pork BBQ. Have a flag-decorating contest or a design a family flag contest.

There are many different types of party themes as most anything can be adapted to your family reunion. Don't forget to have fun!
