Fundraising: Sell Flannel Pants to Show Your School Spirit

You see it each year as the new school year begins. Schools sell various items as fundraisers for sports teams. There is any number of items your school could choose to sell. Why not use flannel pajamas to raise money and show your school spirit?

People wear flannel pants for more than just sleeping or lounging around the house. In fact, more times than not, you'll see people wearing them out and about in public. Capitalize on that desire for comfort by using flannels as a fundraising tool.

The school name and mascot can easily be printed on these flannels. They can be sold, not only to athletes and cheerleaders, but also to other students, family members, and teachers, as well. Perhaps the school can plan on allowing the students and faculty to wear their flannels the day of the big game.

During Homecoming, break from tradition and have all the members of the homecoming court dress in school colored flannel pajamas. The parents will probably appreciate not having to scour the countryside for the perfect homecoming dress or having to rent a tuxedo.

Choose a flannel bottom that matches your school colors. Or let the students pair a school t-shirt with any color of bottom so they can show their own individuality. Flannel pants can be a great way to bring the entire student body together, even if it is for the one occasion.

How about having a "penny drop" where each teacher's name is taped to the front of glass jars. Students will drop pennies into the jar of their chosen teacher. After a particular amount of time has passed, whichever teacher "raises" the most money, to be given to the sports boosters, has to go to class for a week in printed flannel bottoms with the school's logo on them.

Limit the fundraiser to just the flannel pants but open it up to everyone on staff, each student, and their families. Heck, why not allow the lunchroom staff to sport their flannel pants on the day of the game? They would probably appreciate the chance to be comfortable, too.

There are a number of ways to use flannels to promote school spirit once the fundraiser has ended. Use your imagination and you may find that selling flannels as a fundraiser is a great way to watch school spirit soar!
